Holiday in Dorset

A few days camping on Eype Beach just before the summer ended, its a lovely place near Bridport. Whenever I go to a new town I always check to see if there is any doll museums/ collections. I was pleased to hear on the museums website that Bridport museum had a collection on display the majority given to the museum by one collector a  Rev Dr Donald Omand. This is a collection of 19th and 20th century dolls of all types. I was really looking forward to it, but unfortunately when I got there the collection was not on display, they were being stored at their sister building down the road, I could make an appointment and they would get them out for me but only on certain days so I did not get to see the doll collection. On my return home I searched for Rev Dr Donald Omand on google as something about this Rev doll collector interested me.

Well this is what I found out. Donald was an exorcist extraordinaire to read all about his hilarious exorcisms of Bermuda Triangle and Loch Ness there is a book "To Anger the Devil " by Marc Alexander. He was a good friend of the Circus folk, and was well known for his wedding services for them. Most of the doll collection was given as gifts to Donald from the circus folk. Hm,wonder if he was taught his exorcism tricks from them. Donald was also rector of Chideock, Dorset in 1971.
If you know anything more about Rev Dr Donald Omand I,d love to hear.
I did manage to catch the saturday market in town and bought a beautiful old reproduction miniature of an Italian lemon cart. Perfect for my doll displays and Lola seems to like it too.
